The Laboratory of driver psychology (LPC) is one of five research units of IFSTTAR located in Versailles-Satory.
It consists of thirty members, half of which hold permanent positions: researchers and research engineers in psychology, assisted by a team of agents in charge of administrative management and maintenance of scientific equipment. The other part of the staff is composed of about twelve persons holding fixed term contracts as well as PhD students.
Missions
The activities of LPC focus on studying the determinants of road users behaviors in order to promote a safer and more environmentfriendly mobility.
The research conducted at the LPC is aimed at describing behaviors and experiences in transport systems, at identifying and analyzing the determinants of road users behavior or changes in behavior through the study of cognitive, perceptual, emotional and motivational processes.
This research is used to propose recommendations derived from scientific research results to public institutions and authorities, at the local, national, european and international levels, public agencies and private associations, in order to promote a more harmonious sharing of the road between the different categories of users, with special attention to vulnerable road users : peatons, cyclists and powered two wheels drivers.
It is also aimed at developing educational activities and training of road users and actors in the field of road safety, environment and health.
