SPLOTT means Production Systems, Logistics, Transport Organization and Work
Created in 2005, this research unit analyses the interactions between the production systems of shippers and those of transport operators, in relation to their specific spatial and institutional environment. The specifity of the researches conducted at INRETS has demonstrated our will to understand the mutual influences between these two production systems. The activities of the research unit mobilize interdisciplinary approaches and include both a theoretical vision and an empirical vision. The results are fuelling public debates and policies regarding transport and infrastructure planning.
Transport organization and transport planning have a strong footprint on the territory: the goal of our researches is to understand the mutual influences between transport organization and the construction and planning of space. Comparative studies allow us to appreciate the implications of transport organization and planning policies in different institutional contexts and to analyse their impacts on the actors’ practices and market development.
In January 2009, a “work” component has been added to SPLOTT's two main themes of research. Indeed, transport workers and professionals develop specific skills and ways of doing things which have multiple societal impacts. New SPLOTT members, comprising of sociologists and ergonoms, have joined the research unit. This has enlarged the interdisciplinarity of the research unit whom traditionnaly uses economic, geographic, land use planning and political science approaches.
